Pool Covers

Pool Solar Covers are designed to be placed on the surface of a pool or spa, to slow down the rate of heat, chemical and water loss to atmosphere (Yes! - disinfectant chemicals, such as chlorine and bromine, rise to atmosphere in gas form, with the warm water vapour). Some types of cover can also absorb the heat from the sun and direct it into the water.

Pool Debris Covers are used to keep debris such as leaves, as well as small creatures out of swimming pools. They may be held in place with a system of hooks or straps, but are not necessariy able to support the weight of children and pets such as dogs.

Only the Best is Good Enough! Our debris covers are top quality products that are made to last and last. We aim to offer you a choice of material colour, fixings, and trims - with no compromise on quality. These are amongst the best available in the UK, with a 3-year warranty on regular debris covers and a 5-year warranty on criss-cross covers.

We are pleased to have a pool cover made for you at any time of the year. This normally takes about a week - maybe a little longer at busy times. Each pool and customer has different requirements - if you are not sure, please just e-mail us on info@swimfix.co.uk.

Winterising Your Pool - this is easy with a Debris Cover!

The real advantage of using a debris cover on your pool in the closed season is that it enables you to keep your pool clear - and here's how:

  • When you are ready to put your pool 'to bed' for the winter period, just spend a little time with the pool vacuum cleaner, removing any debris that has settled on the bottom. It can then be a good idea to backwash the filter, rinsing it well to leave it clean for a fresh start in the Spring.

    • Set the multiport valve set to 'Backwash' mode, followed by a long rinse to clean the sand and also drop the water level. You can run the pump long enough to drop the water level to just below the skimmer mouth - as this leaves room for the winter rains, but be sure to shut the valve on the skimmer line, or the pump will pull in air and overheat, maybe causing damage.

    • When the water level is low enough (this is to leave room for the winter rainfall), switch back to 'Filter' in the normal way. Remember,it is always best to switch a pump motor off between valve changes.

    • Now is the time to add a copper-sulphate based longlife algicide to the pool, and continue circulating for 2 to 3 hours to distribute this evenly in the water, getting to all the hard to reach parts. Yes - many pools have 'dead spots', which algae and bacteria love!

    • Now you can pull the debris cover over the pool surface and pin it into place, using the tensioners and adjusting the buckles so that it stays taught like a drum skin, not saggy. This helps the rain to pass through it, so it dries quickly and prevents leaves from sticking to the material.

    • If your pool pump is exposed, or subject to damp or condensation, you can simply switch off and have an electrician disconnect the motor, drain the pump down, and remove the unit for storage in a dry place.

    • You should not need to add any more chemicals through the winter, and the longlife algicide should keep your pool clear for up to 6 months. Typically, a good product would use around 2 litres to treat and protect 10,000 to 12,000 gallons - 45/55,000 litres.

This simple procedure does not take very long, costs little, and protects your pool through the winter. It can also help to prevent a great build-up of algae on the pool walls through the winter, saving you many hours of pool cleaning in the spring.
