If you have had enough of poor quality pool water, slow flow rates, miserable filtration through paper cartridges - then you need to upgrade to a sand filter system!
Keeping water clear and safe for swimming is a two-stage process. The careful application of chemicals controls the pH so that the disinfecting chemicals can kill the bacteria - which can be very harmful to humans. The dead bacteria then needs to be removed quickly and effectively, and a sand filter is best for this. The small Chinese pumps and filters cannot deliver the flow rates to produce the quality of water that we expect for safe swimming. Also, if you are considering fitting a flat panel solar-heating system to make the most of the sun - you also need a pump that can manage to push the water up to the panels! Do keep an eye on where you wish to fit these panels - as all pumps have a limited spare 'head' capacity, but these are much better than the light-bulb sized motors on the standard Chinese filters.
We have two systems here. The small filter has a diameter of 14", and is coupled to a one-third horsepower pump. This is designed to deliver 4000 litres per hour, 66 litres per minute. The larger system uses a 16" diameter filter and a half-horsepower pump to deliver 6000 litres per hour, or 100 litres per minute.
For you to use these filters on your pool, you'll need a 16kg charge of special silica sand for the small filter,and a 30kg charge of silica sand for the bigger filter - we supply that with each system delivered. Note - sand for pool filters is NOT builder's sand, but a high grade of silica sand that does not erode to dust. Don't waste your money in a DIY shop!
These filters are made of reinforced fibreglass for strength and durability, and carry a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. They are equipped with a top-mounted multi-port valve for you to control circulation, backwashing (to clean the sand) rinsing and emptying. The pump must be installed by a qualified electrician for your safety.

The systems have fittings to connect to 50mm or 1 1/2" pipe (optional connections). The baby system is shipped with the full charge of 16kg of filter media, and the bigger system is shipped with 30kg of filter media - ready for connection and assembly. This is included in our delivered prices.
We have customers who have fitted these to their murky, smelly pools (a sure sign of stagnation having started) - and have been amazed at the difference. Public pools with high bather loads use sand filters - so why should you bother wth anything less?
