SWIMFIX

Spa Chemicals.

The treatment of water for safe swimming in a hot tub, is broadly the same as for a small pool, a public leisure centre or an olympic 50 metre pool! The main differences are that the concentrations of bacteria tend to be much higher in low volume facilities such as in hot tubs, hydrotherapy pools and teaching pools. Also - the operating temperatures are higher, which in turn encourages bacteria to breed more rapidly.

You can use the same bromine, chlorine, Oxysure (a powerful active oxygen treatment) and pH correction chemicals in 5kg packs, as well as a range of specialist spa treatments such as Spa No Foam, Spa Cartridge Cleaner and Spa Sparkle in 2 litre bottles. In view of the nice warm conditions for bugs to breed, regular water testing is the key to keeping your hot tub safe and enjoyable!

Champion Bromine tablets

Bromine is a very effective pool sanitiser of the same group of chemicals as chlorine (the halogen group), and some poeple find it more pleasant to use in swimming pools and spas.

This is the same product as the Bromine tablets offered here as pool water treatment chemicals. However - if you buy water treatment chemicals packaged in typical spa sizes - for example 500gm or 1.0kg bottles, they can cost over twice the price per kilo!

The need for an effective batericide is just the same in a hot tub, a splasher pool, your local public pool or an Olympic sized pool - but the concentrations of bacteria tend to be far greater in the small pools, so chemicals and equipment need to be adjusted accordingly.

Spa Cartridge Cleaner.

Using a container that can hold an immersed filter cartridge, make up a solution with one litre of this to 18 litres of water. Simply soak a filter cartridge for at least 6 hours - overnight is better.

Next - remove the filter and rinse under fresh running water or a gentle jet of water, to remove organic debris and clean the pleats. This helps to restore a cartridge filter to maximum efficiency.

Please note! You need to adjust the frequency of filter-soaking to suit the bather numbers and chemicals used in the hot tub. One litre of this cartridge cleaner makes up enough solution to soak a filter with an area of up to 25m2!

Remember - regular cleaning can prolong the life of your filters and save you a lot of money!

pH Increaser - Sodium Carbonate - Soda Ash

These are all different names for the same product!

It is important to adjust the pH of water for swimming - whether in a hot tub, domestic pool, local leisure centre or an Olympic pool. The water chemistry is broadly similar but the concentrations of bacteria tend to be far higher in smaller volumes of water - your hot tub!

The pH is important as disinfectants that are chlorine or bromine based work better in water that is neither too acidic or too alkaline, and pH is the measure of acidity or akalinity of water - measured as its hydrogen potential or - pH! The range to aim for is 7.4 to 7.6.

This is the same pack size as for swimming pools - the same chemical in fact, sodium carbonate. It is simply much more cost effective to buy in larger quantities, and we just don't sell one kilo packs for the price of 5kg's and call it 'Spa pH Increaser' - so enjoy 5kg's for the price of 5!

Champion Spa No Foam

Champion Spa No Foam has been specially formulated to control and prevent foaming in hot tubs.

When first filling a hot tub, this should be added at the rate of 50 ml per 450 litres, and then when the spa is fully operational, add 25ml per 450 litres once a week. The regular use too of Champion Spa Sparkle will helps to remove the foam producing residues and brighten the water.

Champion Spa Sparkle

Champion Spa Sparkle is an organic polymer that has been formulated to clarify spa water, by removing the tiny particles that cause cloudiness. These can then be removed by the filter.

Spa Sparkle should be used once a week at the rate of 25 mls per 450 litres of water. It is best if the measured dose is added to about ten litres of water, which is then poured into the spa near to the inlet for thorough dilution. Spas in regular use should be treated twice a week, and heavily used spas treated daily with this polymer. A spa may be used immediately after treatment.
